w22: Our First Week of Summer

May 26 - June 1, 2013

Oh, what do you do in the summer time when all the world is green?

This week we gave some service, crossed a few more items off our 80 days of summer bucket list, read like we were dying of thirst and took naps. It a nice, relaxing, enjoyable week.

Unfortunately I battled a stomach flu most of the week {Wednesday being about my only good day.} It lead to much pain, cramps and contractions. I really hope to put that behind me.

Our Summer of Service Day 1
It was Memorial Day so we made pinwheels, and cards to decorate the graves. It was a pretty wet day but maybe that fit the mood in the cementary.

We were suppose to have a BBQ with Jamie and family but canceled due to feeling poorly on both sides.

Our Summer of Service Day 2
We took a meal to our friend whose father had passed away. We had extra so we were able to discuss someone in our ward that we could take the second meal too. "First Observe Then Serve." Our random ward member was pleasantly surprised with our delivery.

Emma also picked #52 on our bucket list: Make-Overs. We had A LOT of fun with this!!

                    The table set up with all our supplies. And the impressive Before and After Pictures:
Makeup by Spencer

                                                                       Makeup by Ruth
                                                                     Makeup by Austin
                                                                   Makeup by Emma
                                                         Makeup by Mom and HERSELF

Our Summer of Service Day 3
It was our stake's assignment at the church orchard that evening so Kurt took Austin, Emma Lynn and Spencer with him. Ruth {and Spencer} had T-ball practice that night so we went to that and came home to put Lucy to bed. Glad Ruth is still enjoying it. But even happier to hear Kurt's report that the kids worked hard and were helpful at the orchard.

Wednesday Emma and I went to Boise for a doctor and hair appointment {plus lunch and some shopping} while Austin worked at the store all day. He spent most of it counting parts but Kurt reported he did well and even earned $3 for his efforts that day. Marti watched the other three {Thank you!}

Our Summer of Service Day 4
I had a Girl Scout Camp Meeting in Ontario that afternoon so I asked my friend if she had any service we could do for her after the meeting {it was at her house.} She replied that we would weed her veggie garden. Perfect. When we got to her house the yard was emmaculate. I couldn't see a weed in sight. There were some very tiny ones on closer inspection which we promptly pulled. I was very proud of Ruth who kept working and working long after her siblings had finished and went to play. Long after the adults stopped to talk. Unprompted and unasked she just kept pulling away. Its a heart warming thing to see. Way to go Ruth!

Our Summer of Service Day 5
I wasn't feeling very well so I asked Emma if she would rally the kids and make a plan of how they could serve mom and dad. I went to lay down and let them talk and make a plan. It made me smile to hear a flurry of activity minutes later. Ruth on the vaccuum, Austin with the broom, Emma in the bathrooms and Spencer on the mirrors. Much appreciated.

That evening we crossed off #16 on our summer bucket list: Watch an Outdoor Play. I had bought tickets for Kerri, the four oldest and I to watch "7 Brides for 7 Brothers" at the Starlight Mountain Theatre in Garden Valley. It is about 2 hours away in the mountains north of Boise. Its a beautiful drive. I had been there once before with Tyler, and Karen. At the last minute we took Kea {who has babysat a few times for us and is a sweet friend} too. She is not a member and has been struggling with identity and happiness for the past couple months. She is a sweetheart and we were so happy to bring her too!

The play was so fun! I love that musical. Milly was by far the most superior actress and singer but all the brothers and brides hammed it up for a great show. We had a fun night. By the time we got home it was 1 am. Unfortunately shortly there after Ruth and I were again hit with the stomach bug. Ahhhh.

Our Summer of Service Day 6
We made a heart attack for Kea. Since I was still only semi functioning Kurt took the oldest three to deliver it to Kea's yard. They were able to finish and get away in secret.

Kea came to church the next day and Kurt was talking to her mom about it. When they drove up to the house she jumped out of the car before her mom had even stopped. "Do you think it could be for me?!!"  She was so surprised and so happy. Her mom posted on facebook how they were touched with tears at the mysterious act of kindness. Spencer was listening to his report from Kurt and for me watching his face was pricess. He lit up into a huge smile as he realized the service he did made Kea so happy.

~~~~~~ Romans Reflections ~~~~~~~
* Thursday we bought a twin bed for Lucy! I bought a one inch box spring to put under the mattress. I didn't know they sold these but its perfect for her because it is so low to the ground that she can get in and out without a problem. She has moved out of the crib in preparation for Jane's arrival {even though she will sleep in a craddle for the first couple months.} Lucy has loved the independance {imagine that!}
* We have a hawk that flies around our place. As we were driving home Lucy looked out the window and saw him, "A plane! A plane!" Apparently hawks are the country version of airplanes. He is pretty cool to watch.
* Lucy also has a baby in her belly. She sticks it out as far as she can and says, "My baby Jane in here." Austin has been asked her what she will name her baby, "I am a choco-LATE." "Popcorn." "Temple" What lucky kids!
I love Lucy's bed too! Hooray for independence! :)
Aside from Emma and Ruth's, the makeovers are hilarious. I was laughing for so long, especially Lucy's.
Sorry I was a week late to read this. Your kids are adorable, love them. Love the 'make over' idea. Brilliant. The boys were hilarious. Sorry you were sick, sounds like we had the same thing. No fun. Love you.
This is Halloween Nite!
