We had Bill and Cindy over for dinner after church. Grandpa really likes reading Barbie books to the girls.
I thought this was a perfect chance to do a Smash cake for J-bug for her birthday on Wednesday.
This girl was serious about her cake. She dived right in, getting to work on this business of cake destruction. Quickly she started going for large chunks. They funny part is when she started throwing it on the floor. She ended the show by pushing what was left of the cake off her tray and straight onto the floor. It was hilarious. She is the only one who completely destroyed the entire cake. Glad there was another one for the rest of us! hahaha
Naturally it was straight to the bath for the birthday princess
Monday brought the return of camps. This time Dance for Emma in Caldwell. It was at the same studio that Ruth attended a few weeks before. I like that they had the opportunity to experience so many different styles of dance. It was a great workshop. I'm proud of Emma for attending a camp where she didn't know anyone. She made new friends, tried new things and didn't freak out when were late {20-30 minutes} EVERY day. Gratefully the camp was 2 1/2 hours. I also love her confidence. "I don't mean to be mean but I'm the best dancer. I did some great leaps. I could tell the other girls were impressed."
Can I dance too?
Being in Caldwell 4 days in one week means better shopping for mom :)
We met Andrea and Alex at the pool in Vale. She was visiting for a couple of days. It was wonderful to catch up and I'm grateful she made time to see us. Austin loved spending the afternoon with Alex. Grateful for good friends even though distance make it hard to see each other often.
We had Rick and Jolene and the sisters over for dinner that night. The temps continue to be crazy hot for early July (99-104.) We are sticking to meals of watermelon and salad!
We accidently happen to attend the library movie Tuesday after noon went to the library in between dentist appointment. That was a very nice diversion from the heat. Lucy and Spence made themselves right at home watching "The Lorax."
The boys stayed at the library while the girls got their teeth cleaned. It was Lucy's first time at the dentist. She did amazing and big surprise, had no fear. She talked to everyone and charmed all. Dr. White said, "I can tell this one is a crowd pleaser." haha
Emma will definitely need braces but probably not as soon as we thought so that good. Emma and Lucy were cavity free! Ruth has a cavity and will probably always have to battle poor teeth issues.
Wednesday marked Jane's birthday. Birthdays are always a time of celebration and reflection. What a beautiful year it has been. A mother's heart is full and over flowing with the gratitude of raising a sweet and choice spirit and experiencing all the fun first of the past year of discovery. What a blessing of peace and completion Jane is to our family.
We made time for the monthly photo shoot before leaving for dance camp.
Jane is a pretty chill baby. She has her personal bubble space, doesn't like strangers and isn't overly affectionate. She just wants to be laid down to go to sleep, and she pushes you away if you try to rock her. She loves music and will immediately start dancing. She loves books, its her toy of choice. She doesn't care for baths or any water really. She loves to play patty cake. She has a deep laugh. Her siblings can get her to laugh the easiest. She says "mama, dada & Hi." She crawls quickly still doing her gimp crawl the majority of the time. Has stood unassisted a few times for a few seconds. She cruises along the couch or window seat well. We can her bug or Jbug most of the time. She answers to it. :) She still just has two bottom teeth and loves ALL food. Watermelon is her FAVORITE food.
She is our favorite!
It is our first birthday tradition to go to the zoo which worked out perfectly for us since we were already in Caldwell. We invited the Forsbergs to come with us. We had a picnic in the park before going in.
These two loved the statues in the rose garden next to the zoo.
Gratefully the weather while still hot was overcast with a breeze. But than melting under the blazing sun. Jane's excitement of the animals did not disappoint. She was adorable riding in the zoo wagon, holding the map and looking with mouth open in wonder every time the kids told her to, "Look!"
That evening after scouts and mutual she opened a very presents and we ate the traditional bear cake. Nevermind the very lame fact that it was made from rice krispies instead of cake...
Jane enjoying watermelon and real grass during Spencer's practice.
Friday was RUTH day! She chose pancakes for breakfast. After getting chores done we painted fingernails, had a pillow fight and watched a movie {"Cheaper by the Dozen." Which reminded me: did I ever record that that was her favorite movie when she was 4? She wanted to watch it every day.}
Then afterwards she went to the Delong's house while we went to Ontario to turn in Austin's 4H record book {5 minutes before the deadline!} Then we met up for dinner at Dairy Queen and family swim.
We had spaghetti that night during scripture study with dad. It was a great day with a GREAT girl! Happy to celebrate our Ruth!

- Lucy said to me after she got out of the bath, "Your face looks so kissy. Who have you been kissing? They kiss your nose, your face, your lips."
- Spencer on the drove home from the first flag football practice, "I can't believe I'm on the steelers. Don't they know I'm a Mormon boy?!!"
- The kids think its funny to give her a toothbrush to play with
- Early morning runs give a blessing of gorgeous sunrises. There isn't a better way to start the day
