w23: Road Trippin

June 2 - 8, 2013

Our Summer of Service Day 7
{Sunday, June 2} Made brownies and fruit salad to take to friends.

Our Summer of Service Day 8
{Monday, June 3} Made dad's bed with lots of love notes.

Luckily we were well enough to travel on Monday. We had plans to spend the week in Logan with Elaine and kids and I didn't want to change them! We didn't get a very early start because my "to-do" list was quite long. It was probably 11:30 by the time we left Vale. But we only stopped in Twin and traveled without a problem or worry. It was great to reunite with cousins and sister and see Elaine's new home. It is beautiful. We are so happy for them.

Our Summer of Service Day 9
{Tuesday, June 4} Care package for Joseph, Maren and Adelaide as they prepare for their newest addition so soon. We are SO excited to welcome Gwendolyn into the family!!

Tuesday we also completed Summer Bucket List #39 Cousin Camp.

Monday night after we arrived Emma gave the FHE lessons on the importance of being kind within our families {something we are striving for this summer. We have learned the hymn "We are all Enlisted" and it has become our family motto.  Check out the words, I love it.} We also wanted to have kindness with our cousins, aunts, uncles, etc... so we planned Cousin Camp. The 4 oldest kids each planned activities they could do together.

Emma: ART - faux stained glass {using wax paper and sharpies. PS if you try this art project the wax paper will completely ruin your sharpies. FYI.}

Ruth: Story time and coordinating snack. She choose her current favorite book "Ballet Kitty" and the sequel "Ballet Kitty Ballet Class." Following the book we had lemonade, cheese and crackers and tiny tuna fish sandwiches for lunch.

Austin: Science. He brought the volcano we had made a few years ago. Unfortunately he didn't do any measuring when applying his baking soda and vinegar to  make it explode. A few days later, after purchasing a gallon of vinegar, he had a decent explosion.

Spencer: Games. Due to naps and quiet time Austin and Spencer were the only ones who went outside to play. But they did have some cool Frisbees to play with./;)

Sam arrived that evening. YAY!! So happy he would take the time to come visit all of us when we were in town. He looks great and the kids still think the world of him {duh!}

Our Summer of Service Day 10
{Wednesday, June 5} Surprise birthday party for SAM! Elaine and I woke up early to decorate and get breakfast ready. The boys had picked out a dinosaur pinata for the birthday celebration and so Elaine and I went with the Dino theme. Perfect for a 23 year old, don't you think? After everything was ready Austin went upstairs to tell Sam it was time for breakfast. We were hiding downstairs with balloons and yelled, Surprise and then Happy Birthday!

He was a good sport. :)

I had purchased a groupon to a water park in North Odgen so after a few errands and the process of getting everyone ready we headed out for our swim day adventure. When we got out of the car Lucy was SO excited, "I'm ready! I'm ready!" I could barely keep up with her.

                                              All the cousins before they were turned lose.

 The 4 older kids did a wonderful job with their buddy system and stuck together. That helped the 3 adults watch the little ones. My little girls loved the frog slide and went down about a million times. We stayed for a couple hours before we all agreed we were ready to go. Even after multiple applications of sunscreen there were still some noses & cheeks that ended up sun burnt {and my back!} It was a fun water park and everyone had a great time.

The kids and I stopped to pizza and a salad for dinner which we ate at the Farnsworth's after everyone had bathed and showered. We ended the night with a game {How well do you know Sam?} and cake and ice cream.

Before Sam left on Thursday morning we broke open the pinata. Austin had picked a nice assortment of chocolate to put inside - I sent most of it home with Sam! I'm so glad he made the effort to come up to Logan while we were there. It was great to see him.

Our Summer of Service Day 11
{Thursday, June 6} The kids made cards for our missionary Elder Timothy. Naturally Emma had an idea already and put everyone to work.

Unfortunately the morning just got progressively worse. My kids hadn't been sleeping well. Elaine's boys were sad/tired/sick?? And then Lorna and Austin started complaining about stomach aches. The final straw was Lucy having diarrhea. Yikes! With Elaine and kids planning to leave for Arizona in a few days I didn't want to get everyone {more} sick. All things considered decided to leave.

We read another book/snack from Ruth's Cousin Camp {"If you give a Mouse a Cookie."}
                                           Love Daniel caught in the act of stealing a cookie! :)

Thanks for a great time together Elaine and kids and Sam. We love you and enjoyed being together! We left Elaine's early that afternoon and made good time {only one stop at a rest area and Lucy was able to make it in time to the bathroom!} It was good to be home and for the kids to sleep in their own beds.

Our Summer of Service Day 12
{Friday, June 7} Emma woke up sick, throwing up to be exact. Great. When Ruth found out she went and unloaded her bag from the trip. Then she went into her bedroom and made Emma Lynn's bed. All unprompted. What a sweet girl. Following Ruth's example I encouraged the other kids to likewise give secret acts of service to their siblings.

Our Summer of Service Day 13
{Saturday, June 8} That morning we cleaned the church. It was not our scheduled turn but we were happy to help the Bishop whose daughter had just gotten married. Neon Green took over the church.

When we got home from Logan a crazy woman took over our house. The nesting-I-want-to-get-ALL-the-undone-projects-since-we-moved-in-10-months-ago-done-before-baby-Jane-arrives. She seriously over took my body. My lists were long. I would not rest and the kids ran away in fright if they saw me coming.

                                                        Look. You would be scared too.
I took this after spray painting a filing cabinet {turquoise} in the wind. Why wait for better weather. Have to get it done now! Never mind that I was more blue than the object I was trying to paint. And my hair. Not styled for this picture. Permanently fixed in this fashion with the amount of blue spray applied to it {thanks wind.} It took 4 scrubs of shampoo to get it workable again. And lets not even talk about my hands.

SO all I'm trying to say is that the nesting thing prego women get is real. And BEWARE.

PS I have got a lot done so it must all be okay. Right???
